Ode: Intimation of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood

by William Wordsworth

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:

This website is supported in part by a grant from the Louisville Institute

Way back when I was a young graduate student in Marriage and Family counseling one of my research classes had the assignment to create a research project and questionnaire that empirical data could be collected.  My question was how can families encourage the spiritual development of their children.  My professor was not too keen on the research model I had created but was so very encouraging about the topic.  This began what is now a 35 year quest and focus of my professional work life.

I embarked on this project during my sabbatical in the summer of 2017 to study children’s spirituality.  I was awarded a pastoral project grant from the Louisville Institute.  This project has gone through many transformations to become this website.  I am so grateful to the Louisville Institute for their generous financial support and their encouragement of this topic.  My congregation continues to inspire and challenge me in my faith journey and I thank them for the time to complete this important work.  I look forward to the ways that this website will interact and impact families and churches and children.
